Spirit of the Highland and Islands Tapestry

The 56 panels are inspired by the colours and textiles of The Highlands. The tapestry is a combination of embroidery and Harris Tweed. and linen. The amazingly rich colours of The Highlands and Islands can be found in the textiles of The Harris Tweed, which are stitched into with stories of the highlands. These stories are based on its history to personal stories. The rocks, the land, the sea, the lochs, its weather, its history, its people, its myths, its stories.

Half of the artwork will be housed in Inverness Castle, opened 10/12/2025.

It is part of The Inverness Castle Experience.

The experience will contain interactive and immersive technology, a 3D textile cairn, interviews with stitchers and a mural.

While others be in display around The highlands. The artwork will rotate between sites.

​Andrew Crummy is an artist who draws and paints. Since 1986 he has completed many artworks, illustrations, paintings and murals.

He is known as the designer of community art tapestries including The Great tapestry of Scotland.

In 2023 he was awarded an MBE, an honorary doctorate from Dundee University and a Fletcher of Saltoun Award from The Saltire Society.
